Introduction. Molecular hydrogen (H2) is a medical gas with beneficial effects on oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptosis, lipid metabolism, and signaling pathways, which has been shown to alleviate pathological conditions in numerous human diseases or animal disease models.

Objective. H2 is a medical gas that positively affects oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptosis, lipid metabolism, and signaling pathways. More than 300 articles, including 42 clinical trial articles, have demonstrated that H2 ameliorates pathological conditions in numerous human diseases or animal disease models. For the first time, Ohsawa et al. reported that H2 can be used in antioxidant therapy. Clinically, H2 is used by oral intake of H2-water, intravenous drip infusion of H2-saturated physiological solution, or inhalation of air with 2–4% H2 gas.

Materials and methods. Analysis of special and scientific-methodical literature.

The results. The medical application of H2 gas can be considered a new, clean and economical technology. Since the production of H2 gas based on water electrolysis has the potential to expand medical applications, a technology for its safe dilution and delivery into the body by inhalation has been developed. H2 is an inert molecule that can absorb highly active oxidants, including the hydroxyl radical (-OH) and peroxynitrite (ONOO-), and convert them to water. H2 is safe and does not cause any harmful effects on the body. The mechanism of action of H2 differs from traditional drugs, as it affects the pathogenesis of many diseases. Since H2 has a wide and diverse spectrum of action, it can be called a "broad-spectrum molecule" in medicine. In these materials, we considered the modern medical applications of H2, and also showed the promising possibilities of using domestically produced H2 generators. Due to its excellent efficacy and lack of side effects, H2 may soon become an effective therapeutic candidate for medical use.

Conclusions. To date, a number of various systems of molecular hydrogen generators have been created in the world. As an alternative to the existing systems in Ukraine, an autonomous system was developed in the form of a thermoionizer-generator of molecular hydrogen "Living Water" (TIG "LW") (author Prof. O. S. Pokotylo). TIG "LW" has additional advantages over analogues and further prospects for use. In a number of studies, the efficiency of the formation of molecular hydrogen in TIG H2 "LW", the time-concentration dependences between the content of molecular hydrogen, parameters of the redox potential and pH have been established, and the generalized effects of the positive influence of molecular hydrogen have been highlighted.
