Archiving and Long-Term Preservation Policy

Compliance with COPE, WAME, and DORA Principles and Recommendations

The Journal adheres to the principles of Open Access. All articles are made freely and permanently available immediately upon publication of an issue, in accordance with the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) definition of open access. The Journal’s licensing policy is compatible with the majority of open-access and archiving policies.

The Journal ensures the long-term digital preservation and free accessibility of all published materials while maintaining the principles of open access and academic integrity through the following mechanisms:

Repositories

Full-text access to all Journal publications is provided in real time through the “Archives” section of the Journal’s official website. The archive contains all issues and individual articles without any time limitation on storage.

In addition, the Journal stores metadata and full-text articles in an institutional repository. To ensure protection against data loss, the Journal’s electronic archive is also deposited with the V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Technical Infrastructure

All Journal materials are archived in stable electronic formats that ensure long-term accessibility, reproducibility, and accurate citation. Metadata and full-text publications may be indexed in national and international information and scientometric databases.

The Journal performs regular backups of all published issues and continuously monitors technological aspects of digital preservation to prevent problems associated with file-format conversion and software obsolescence.

The Journal website is hosted on the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, which supports the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN). Developed by the Public Knowledge Project, PKP PN is designed to preserve scholarly journal archives published through Open Journal Systems.

The PKP Preservation Network is integrated with the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) system, which provides decentralized and distributed preservation, continuous access, and maintenance of authentic content versions. PKP PN also ensures the long-term preservation of journals that are not included in other digital preservation services such as CLOCKSS or Portico.

LOCKSS is an open-source preservation system developed by the Stanford University Libraries. It enables libraries to preserve web-based scholarly journals by continuously monitoring websites for new content and archiving it. Each archived copy is regularly verified against other copies within the network, and damaged or lost content can be restored when necessary.

Accessibility Guarantees

The Journal uses sustainable file formats, including PDF, to ensure the long-term readability and accessibility of scientific content.

Each published article is assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), ensuring persistent identification and discoverability. The Journal follows OpenAIRE standards to facilitate indexing and interoperability within international scholarly communication systems.

All Journal materials available through the Journal website, the V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine, and other relevant repositories and databases are provided free of charge and without access restrictions.
