Introduction. The materials presented reflect the contribution of Academician Yu. I. Kundiiev to preventive medicine: occupational hygiene and physiology, agricultural hygiene, problems of toxicology and hygiene of pesticide use, epidemiology of occupational and general diseases, study of occupational health risks, hygienic problems of liquidation of the consequences of the Chernobyl accident. Yu. I. Kundiiev has been a lifelong organizer of health care, a domestic and world leader in preventive medicine.
The aim of the research – to generalize scientific information on the contribution of Yu. I. Kundiiev to preventive medicine in Ukraine and the world.
Materials and methods of the research. Analysis of scientific literature on the scientific, pedagogical, and public activities of Yu. I. Kundiiev.
Results. Yu. I. Kundiiev enriched hygienic science, he published more than 660 scientific works, including 35 monographs, manuals and textbooks. Some of his monographs are used as scientific guides. Under the leadership or consultation of Yu. I. Kundiiev, more than 50 doctoral and candidate dissertations were prepared and successfully defended. Yu. I. Kundiiev was a member of the WHO Standing Committee of Experts on the Safe Use of Pesticides, National Correspondent of UNEP Chemicals, member of the Bureau of the European Forum on Bioethics.
Conclusions. Yu. I. Kundiiev will remain in domestic and world science as an outstanding Ukrainian scientist in the field of preventive medicine. Among his colleagues, he will remain a model of service to science. His scientific legacy is great and his like-minded people will continue the development of the traditions of the Ukrainian School of Hygienists.
